Kirsty K Latham Kirsty K Latham, from Greater Manchester, is a 23 year old artist. Kirsty’s work consists of portraits and figure studies of icons and legends and has also been commissioned to do portraits. From a young age Kirsty has been extremely creative, from designing clothes through to knitting, embroidery to drawing and painting. She would read books on design techniques, experimenting with different styles and medium. When Kirsty left school she went on to study for a Diploma in Art & Design, where her favourite subject was life drawing. She spent the second year of her diploma specialising in fashion and textiles, spending most of her time illustrating her designs and the models wearing them. Kirsty’s own style emerged after her studies. With no more projects or life drawing classes, she began to take inspiration from the things around her, the things that interested her- music, prints, textiles and books. Kirsty’s work has a very distinctive style that differs greatly to other work with a similar theme. She held her first solo exhibition in Manchester city center in 2008 and strongly believes in creating beautiful work that is finished to a high standard and offers great value for money. Inspiration Kirsty’s work has strong influences of the past, particularly the 1960s. The subjects of her artwork include The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. Expressing a keen interest in prints- particularly William Morris, Celia Birtwell, Cath Kidston, Orla Kiely alongside collecting patterned wrapping paper with a vintage/retro design. Both of these things inspire the background designs for her work. Kirsty’s favourite artists include Gustave Klimt, Andy Warhol, Michaelangelo and Robert Mcginnis. To Canvas Kirsty takes images and interprets them, creating colourful and detailed pieces with a modern look whilst still keeping with a retro theme. All of her work is hand drawn onto canvas and then painted using acrylic paints. |
